Support for the Responsible Business Initiative continues to grow
The current crisis affects many people heavily. The consequences for economic policy are barely foreseeable today. For broad circles, however, it is self-evident that the reconstruction of the economy must occur in a sustainable manner. For example, CEOs of major international companies such as l’Oréal, H&M or Unilever, are calling for «Green Recovery» in a joint declaration with political decision-makers and stakeholders: According to this declaration, the economic reconstruction project should be socially and ecologically sustainable. Rules for corporations regarding compliance with basic human rights and environmental standards form its foundation. This is also reflected in the announcement of the European Commissioner for Justice that he will now quickly ensure more effective rules and sanctions in relation to corporate responsibility within the framework of the «European Green Deal». In this way, the EU wants to strengthen both the sustainability and the crisis resistance of global supply chains. Meanwhile, support for our cause continues to grow in Switzerland.
78 percent would vote YES today
Survey figures collected between 5 and 12 May show: Today, 78% of eligible voters would vote in favour of the Responsible Business Initiative. This means that the approval rate remains constant compared to the results of February, the proportion of those who are already completely sure even increases from 40 to 43 percent. Looking back over the last two years, surveys show that approval has risen continuously (cf. graph). Dick Marty (Liberal Democratic Party, FDP), former member of the Council of States, and Co-President of the Initiative Committee comments: «The latest survey shows that we have reason to be optimistic. This does not surprise me, because our initiative’s demands are self-evident. If corporations poison drinking water or destroy entire areas of land, they must be held accountable.»
